What’s the difference between the public Facebook group and the private Facebook page?
COVID rules mean there have been no ceilidhs since April and none until at least March 2021. The intention with Zoom-Ceilidhs is to fill that gap and are aimed at those with little or no dance experience, those who miss a proper social get together and like to have fun. You don’t have to have any Scottish heritage or wear tartan. Tartan, if your not sure is a woollen cloth woven in one of several patterns of coloured checks and intersecting lines, especially of a design associated with a particular Scottish clan. Zoom-Ceilidhs are a 60-minute online ceilidh dancing session. You don’t need to know what to do. I will guide you through the dances. It’s not technical dancing; you need no dancing ability whatsoever. This means you’ll start learning a new skill you can show off to your friends. It’s a fun, relaxed dance session. Great to unleash your hidden Outlander.
Ceilidh is a Gaelic word for a casual party with music, dancing and entertainment. Traditionally, these gatherings would allow participants to tell stories, sing songs and dance, socially together. Given how we are living currently with COVID, cant gather together like we used to. Zoom-Ceilidhs bridge the gap until we are allowed to socialise once more. You need no previous dance experience; you can join in with two left feet. The emphasis is all about being inclusive and enjoying yourself. It’s not technical dancing, and half the fun is making mistakes. You can have a look at what a proper socially inclusive ceilidh looks like here. We won’t manage that in the Zoom environment, so it will be as close as we can get.
One-off payment $97 (around £74). This isn’t something you would book to do on your own. It’s much more fun to have your friends, family or even colleagues join in. So for example, if there is a group of 9 “Zoom camera guests” joining the session, works out at less than $10 per “camera.” Who you have on the other side of the camera is up to you. Could be a real mix of some families of 4, some colleagues on their own, a couple of large family groups. So this works out at less than $5 each.
Ceilidhs are very social; they are ideal for weddings and parties. However, in our informal Zoom Ceilidhs, you don’t need a partner to dance with. I’ll be calling the dances on my own and pretending to have a partner to dance with. I’ll be explaining what we do as we go along. If there is a group of you there great, if not you can you a prop as a partner- such as a broom, cuddly toy or use your imagination and dance with a “ghost”. The dances tend to be could or four-person dances. In these COVID, this is all about having fun and being as safe, socially as possible. Don’t worry; it will still be fun dancing alone.
This blog gives you an independent idea of what to check out before booking your ceilidh and I certainly tick all these boxes.
